Beijing Bubble

The Beijing team of architects with the eloquent name of MAD ( "Crazy") completed construction of the first of a series of works conceived in the form of a bubble.

First, quite original structure, called "bubble Hutong 32", provides a toilet and a staircase in hatonge-traditional type of Chinese dwelling, which is based around a courtyard. Hatongi are now threatened with extinction due to the rapid development of Beijing.
The "Beijing bubble" of MAD provides for expansion of such bubbles in many hatongah city to improve living conditions, while maintaining the established urban landscape. The project was presented at the Venice Architectural Biennale in 2006. And now, three years later, the first bubble appeared in the small courtyard in Beijing.
